DPX vPlus offers multiple strategies for protecting OLVM environments. Strategies may require a node installed as a VM within the backup environment or on a separate system. OLVM 4+ environments utilize API v4 for backup tasks. Import/export modes determine how backups and restores are performed. OLVM (with API v4) supports three modes:
- Disk Attachment: Exports VM metadata (OVF format) and disk files (RAW format) via a Proxy VM with the node installed. Supports OLVM 4.0+, but does not support incremental backups. Requires a Proxy VM in each cluster for disk attachment.
- Disk Image Transfer: Exports VM metadata (OVF format) and disk snapshot chains (QCOW2 format). Supports OLVM 4.2+/oVirt 4.2.3+ and incremental backups. Disk images are transferred directly from the API, eliminating the need for a Proxy VM.
- SSH Transfer: Data transfers occur directly from the hypervisor via SSH.
